We care about your posture. Really! We do. Bags should only get heavy when you load them up with the contents of your life. BUT NOT BEFORE! We support healthy bag wearing habits by paying close attention to the weight of leathers we select AND the construction of our bags. We work closely with our factories to eliminate all unnecessary materials, like heavy hardware and bag fillers, relying on good design and construction principles to make a quality product.
At Jo, we take testing leather quality and strength seriously. Our testing methods include - beat with a stick, stretch, pour oil all over, fill with sand, wash, leave outside for days, scratch, play tug of war. So far, 3 types of leather made the cut as our favorites and “go to” season-to-season. Below you’ll find their specific particularities and peculiarities.
Rich black leather on one side and dark chocolate suede on the other. This soft leather is unique because with use, the brown undertones come through more and more, and the bag goes from black to brown/black.
This semi-veg tanned leather is finished with natural waxes giving each color a rich/saturated look. The natural finishing of this leather exposes the full characteristics of the grain which requires the selection of extremely high-quality raw hides. This leather is soft but stiff enough to keep the shape of the bag intact.
If you love the way bags naturally age, or you prefer the aged look of worn-in vintage bags, then you’ll LOVE this. Soft and supple, this leather gets darker every day. How dark? That depends. Exposure to sun, oils on your hands, water, will all make the bag darker faster. The swatches on the left show the transition of color over time.
